The Cycling History of WOLLONGONG
From the first Wollongong Bicycle Club in 1889 to the World Championships in 2022
In 2022 the Wollongong region will host the UCI World Road Cycling Championships. This Podcast looks at the 140years of cycling leading up to the Illawarra Region crowning the world champion road cyclists in 2022.
The Podcast features Tour de France star Mark Renshaw along with Illawarra Club administrators Terry Wall and Garry Doughty; while local cyclists Lionel Covington, Danny O’Connor and Daniel Hennessy join New South Wales Cycling Federation life member Doug Holland to explain the regions unique and long cycling History.
Includes– the cycling venues of Bodes Oval, Mt Keira Road and Unanderra Velodrome along with a report on Wollongong’s first Road (1890) and Track Championships (1891).
