In July 1883 at the Exchange Hotel in Sydney, the Sydney Bicycle Club called a meeting to consider the forming of the NSW Cyclist Union. Prominent Sydney BC long distance cyclist Mr J Copland (a former Surry Bicycle Club member) was Chairman and large group of over 100 cycling enthusiasts who elected Mr James Martin President and Mr H. McRae as Honorary Secretary to draft a constitution to be considered at the next meeting when officially the NSWCU was formed.
